Bloch Signature Rehearsal Pointe Shoe

  • Overview: The Signature Rehearsal is a relatively square-shaped pointe shoe with a somewhat high vamp (the distance from the tip of the shoe to the opening for the foot). It has a wide platform (or tip). The shoe is available in whole and half sizes from 2.0 to 7.0 (roughly corresponding to U.S. women’s shoe sizes 4.5 to 9.5) via Discount Dance Supply and other online retailers. There are four widths. The shoe comes in both a Regular and a Strong shank (the part of the shoe that supports the dancer on her toes), but only the Regular is available from most online retailers.
  • The pros: The Signature Rehearsal is designed to hold up longer than other pointe shoes. Also, the wide platform makes balancing easier. The shoe molds to a dancer’s foot fairly easily. Many dancers feel that it enhances the look of their feet en pointe. The high vamp can be good for dancers with high arches.
  • The cons: Despite its design, for dancers with very strong feet, the shoe sometimes breaks in too quickly. Some dancers also complain that the shanks tend to break or have nails pop out. Also, depending on foot shape, the shoe may not mold as well to a dancer’s feet.
  • The bottom line: This is a good pick if you are looking for a relatively affordable pointe shoe that will hold up for a decent amount of time, unless you have extremely high arches or strong feet. It’s a good choice for students because of the wide platform. Professionals or dancers with a heavy rehearsal schedule may want to look for a different option.
