It is time for another short fiction review and a review of another ebook that is available for free from Smashwords. I personally love Smashwords because although you never know what you are going to find, there are some quality stories available for little or no cost. This time I decided to read “Biters” by Matthew David Stephens.
When David sneaks into the woods to party with his friend and the hottest girl in the local high school, he is bitten by a strange insect and become a mindless killing machine. The terror only spreads when David goes to school on Monday and the insects begin to spread leading to one of the greatest disasters ever in a high school. Is this the end of the biters or is it only a beginning?
I do my best to be positive in all of my reviews but I have to be honest here and say that this story just did not work for me. It was little more than a way to write a sex scene capped with violence in the beginning followed by a scene of carnage at a high school. There was very little story here and the ending just did not fit in with the rest of the tale. It is, however, a short tale and should satisfy those who are just looking for a quick story filled with violence. The technical aspects of the writing were sufficient if not great but the story was just not strong enough to earn a recommendation from me.
