The threat of big brother watching us is usually a joke between tech savvy sorts anytime something major happens. While films involving hackers is nothing new few bring the excitement and action of Cybergeddon. Starring Missy Peregrym as Agent Chole Jocelyn who is a former hacker intent on working her way up the ladder in the FBI. Her biggest catch is an international cyber hacker named Gustov (Olivier Martinez) who seems to be tapped in everywhere. When he escapes from prison he puts agent Chloe through a nightmare of cyber espionage with only her partner Frank (Manny Montana) and another one of her catches the hacker Rabbit Rosen (Kick Gurry) by her side.
Cybergeddon is a thrill ride with an unmatched pace. Similar to the show 24 the movie takes an in depth look at the world of cyber crimes in a face paced atmosphere. Peregrym is a great leading lady as she holds down a majority of the film including the unexpected fighting scenes. The film plays out in the same fashion as movies like Enemy of The State or Live Free Or Die Hard. It gives us a back door look at a world that we take for granted each day. The constant references to security and how we allow ourselves to be subjected to this activity is spot on. It;s also one of the reasons why Norton Anti Virus plays a huge part in the film.
What hurts the film is the extra Hollywood cheese that made some of the scenes a little more comical than it needed to be. Cybergeddon is an action film that has no problem reminding you that throughout. Not that the explosions and car chase weren’t needed just the over exaggeration on certain parts seemed far fetched. It helps that the film has a solid back story as most of the annoyances of the film are overshadowed by the great performances and intriguing plot.
Cybergeddon was created as a web series and developed by CSI writer Anthony E. Zuiker. His imprint is all over this film so if you are a fan of one of those shows then Cybergeddon is right up your alley. Cybergeddon is a cool, and hip thriller that resonates with us all as they use the common devices found in everyday society. When you read horror stories of people hacking into webcams or stealing identities through social media these are the people behind the scenes. If any thing Cybergeddon gives you an awareness on certain technology that is the infrastructure of the world we live in today.
From Sneakers to The Net, Cybergeddon shows us that cyberpunk films still holds grown in todays society/ Don’t be surprised to see more films of this nature in the future as we head more into the millennium. If you are looking for an action packed thriller that has the chance to go over your head in computer jargon then check out Cybergeddon.
