Bike Thief: 'Ghost of Providence' 2012

“Ghost of Providence” by Bike Thief is a darkly whimsical Indie Folk piece.

The opening track (entitled: Battles) sounds instrumentally very Post-Rock, almost like “Godspeed You! Black Emperor” in their more acoustic / folk incarnations. The vocals separate them from the genre with pretty standard Indie-girl vocals sounding deep and throaty.

The next track (entitled 'Ghost of Providence pt. 1') picks things out of the dark world a bit with a more uplifting Alt Country sound. Lyrically it's pretty repetitive, causing the track to get a little stale. It's almost 4 minutes long but feels longer.

The following track (entitled: 'Look Up') is more verse heavy, with a really pleasing violin line throughout and a much more dynamic progression.

Altogether I'm not a huge fan of the lyrics / vocals, but the production and overall sound of the album works really well at creating a heady, almost retro ambiance that's fun to get lost in.
