One of the perks of covering the music scene in Southern CA is the chance to see bands that play stadiums in more intimate venues. Molly Malone's Irish Pub & Import Room hosted a must see line-up that included Heaven Below, Madlife, Cage 9, Rapscallions, and Reclaim the Sky. The roof got ripped off and fans had the opportunity to be up close and personal with these powerhouse bands. If you missed this show here is a quick recap.
Heaven Below kicked off the night is true Heaven Below style. Flawlessly performing their hard and heavy hits they also added a few songs from their new album (my personal favorite), "The Deadlight Sessions." If you have not heard The Deadlight Sessions and are familiar with Heaven Below, pick it up for something totally new and different. The guys veere away from their normally hard and heavy anthems and go mostly acoustic. Don’t let this fool you - they put the balls in acoustic music. They took Molly Malone’s stage by storm bringing fans out early to rock the night away. Heaven Below is no stranger to rocking hard. They can be heard on over 50 radio stations across America, and have shared the stage with greats such as Buckcherry & Avenged Sevenfold. If you do not know this band, drop everything and hit a live show near you. This show, like all the shows I have seen of theirs, was flawless and I left with my rock and roll urges satisfied.
Madlife, an Industrial Hard Rock band that calls L.A. home, is a balls to the wall hard band. When they first came into the music scene their goal was to make “Music As Harsh As the World We Live In.” . If you have seen this band perform you know that they have fulfilled that goal. With a Nine Inch Nails meets Rammstein sound, this band has made its mark in the music world. Playing gigs like the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, this band has built quite the fan base. The fans that came to Molly Malone’s to support had the chance to be up against the stage as this band did what it does best, fill your ears with hard and heavy ear candy.
Cage 9; is all I can say is WOW! This band has created the WWE's Dolph Ziegler's theme song 'Perfection,' the soundtrack of WWE's Stone Cold Steve Austin’s movie “The Condemned,” is in the trailer for the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie, on FX's "The Shield," “American Pie: Band Camp,” Stephen J. Cannell's thriller "Demon Hunter," and in the intro to CW4Kids show "Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight.". If that is not enough, they have played with such legends as Queensryche, Filter, Buckcherry, Hinder, Candlebox, Sevendust and Ozzy. So big is an understatement when you talk about this band and the oppotunity to see them in an intimate venue is rare and epic all at once. They filled the room and, as you would expect, rocked the joint.
Rapscallions is a Rock, Funk, Alternative, Hip Hop band that spiced up the lineup. This LA band has performed with Chris Cornell, Fishbone, Mike Posner, English Beat, Wu Tang Clan, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, John Browns Body...just to name a few. They are a crowd pleaser and seeing them at such a small venue was a bonus. Why? Well in small venues a fan has the opportunity to be up close to the stage, mingle with the band after the sets, and in my opinion it is an all around better show experience. Molly Malone’s will not be the same since this band took the stage. Why? Because they ripped the roof off. Yeah, that was cheesy but the point I am grasping for is this...Go See This Band Live.
The night closed with Reclaim The Sky. This Hard Rock - Alternative band has a desire to make music that “connects with their fans on both a spiritual and cerebral level”. I can say first hand that they have accomplished this goal. This band is on a deeper level than most when it comes to the meaning of music and their music compilations. I found myself wonderfully lost in their music and I urge anyone who wants to rock hard to check out Reclaim the Sky. An added bonus to their performance was when they finished their set with Aaron Rossi (drummer for Ministry & Black Oil) behind the kit performing one of Reclaim the Sky's originals - just a cherry atop a great night of music!
As always support local music, hit a show, and have a rocking day.
