Funeral doom metal is slow and melodic. Esoteric have crafted dark lamentations for over a decade now and this album shows them at their most focused and powerful. Expect deep death growls over sweeping (but slow) chords that slowly bring out a melody. Crashing sounds collide and abrade, leaving a stygian mood hanging over the audience like a curtain of lead, and yet inside that curtain, a melancholic beauty emerges.
