Many have said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. One of the many reasons most cultures place such high emphasis on the beauty of eyes.
Mascara has been one weapon in the beauty arsenal for decades. Each climate is in need of different chemical compounds to withstand all that nature throws at those who choose to partake in this specific beauty ritual.
Mascara, plus California heat, or California winter (indoor/outdoor heating systems), can often equal unintentional raccoon eyes, or worse, mascara unintentionally on the brow bones. A big ,no no, for those who chose to adorn themselves. Especially blonds, with the lightness of the pallet of both their hair and face, this type of pallet makes for dark misplaced color to really stand out in all the wrong ways.
Ever since Max Factor closed it's doors and my supply of THE coveted holy grail of the mascara world, was no longer in existence, I went on an extensive search for the best low cost mascara on the market.
One that will not only give full intense lashes and not irritate, but also wont fall off my face regardless of it being waterproof or not waterproof.
After many mistrials, I finally found a suitable replacement with Maybelline's Volum' Express The Classic Mascara, the Waterproof version is great as well. Note that the non water proof version will stay put in our California heat and winter, so long as you are not going into direct line of water, as in, the shower with your special friend, a pool or the beach. In those cases, use the waterproof.
Let's get one thing straight, though Maybelline’s 'Great Lash' has been voted editors choice year after year, I have never liked it. Personally, the formula and brush lacks on so many levels. As a light skinned blond, I need dramatic impact for my lashes that wont clump together, and 'Great Lash' never seemed to deliver much more than a slight tinge of color, so there was no point in using it. Leading me to the reluctance of trying anymore Maybelline mascara products. However, when I found Volum' Express ‘The Classic’ I was thrilled.

Delivers fast clump-free volume, with both brush and formula working together to build and quickly thicken lashes without clumps or globs. It is contact lens safe, ophthalmologist-tested, shouldn't irritate your eyes, doesn't thin out your existing lashes, and it comes in both a waterproof and a washable formula, with many colors to choose from, plus a straight or curved brush. I prefer straight.
FOR BEST RESULTS:
Sweep brush upwards from root to tip, wiggle it a bit at the base of the lash and continue up. For some it is best to first apply the mascara on the tops of the lashes, then move to the usual type of application. To build instant volume, do not let dry between coats. Repeat until you get your desired effect. Remember NEVER share your mascara and mascara lasts up to 3 months, throw it away if it's older. All the more reason to go drug store level on this makeup item.

For the best cost & return policy try Walmart. When buying makeup always keep the receipt and buy from places that allow returns and/or exchanges. Remember, once you open a product from Target, you keep it, even if you are allergic to it. I wouldn't recommend buying form Target unless you already know you love a product.
