For those seeking a change from the typical Blockbuster films, "Belle' is a refreshing alternative. "Belle" is a film inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle an 18th Century biracial Englishwomen (the daughter of an African woman and a Royal Navy Admiral Father), who is raised by her Aristocratic uncle, the Lord Chief Justice of England. "Belle" is an engaging film which takes the audience through Dido's journey of self discovery as she encounters both prejudice and privilege. "Belle" is a story of historical and current significance as it addresses the human rights issues involving the slave trade. "Belle" is entertaining from beginning to end because it successfully presents a nice balance of politics, culture, and romance. Dido is portrayed by Gugu Mbatha-Raw who also starred with Boris Kodjoe, in the 2010 television series "Undercover" about a husband and wife CIA duo. The cast of the film also includes the popular television series "Downton Abbey" star Penelope Wilton.
