While some New Yorkers were all "doom & gloom" inside their apartments last weekend, my friend & I braved the drizzles outside & headed to the lower east side for Sunday Brunch. The NYC skyline may have been grey, but we discovered that just through the threshold at 146 Essex Street, life was bright & lively.
Beauty & Essex on the LES is a part of Tao Group, a prominent & dominating restaurant group with locations in New York City, Las Vegas, & Sydney, Australia that boasts properties such as Tao, Lavo, Stanton Social, and Beauty & Essex, respectably.
Before entering the restaurant, the guest is greeted by an impressive pawnshop setting, where almost every piece is for sale. Pieces include electric guitars, handbags, jewelry, comic & movie art, and much more. Several pieces in the shop are autographed. A few steps further into the restaurant sits a lavish check-in area, and overhead hangs an eye-catching crystal chandelier that could have easily looked just as appropriate in a lavish mansion in The Hamptons.
The restaurant’s décor is funky, yet classic, and the dark furniture sets the mood for a great time. Popular brunch items include beignets filled with raspberry jam, steak & eggs, and the ever-popular eggs benedict. The restaurant also features an impressive dinner menu, created by executive chef Chris Santos.
