Bears debuted whimsical indie pop sung with the shyness of Elliott Smith and The Meat Puppets with Bears (2006), “Daydreams” being a bit of childlike wonder. Simple Machinery (2008) is another set of indie pop songs like on Bears but with a bigger sound.
Greater Lakes was the logical progression from Simple Machinery. More indie pop songs that reach beyond cute instrumentals with shy singing, reaching a majestic tone on “Eleven A.M.”, a soft indie rocker on “Perfect Girl” (but only because of the staccato electric guitar intro); and by far their best collection of pop songs with “Wash My Hands” and “Eleven A.M.”, though the vocals are still lacking to make them special.
