Batman Arkham Asylum is an adventure/stealth game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on August 25th, 2009, Windows on September 15th, 2009 and OS X on November 3rd, 2011. The story follows Batman escorting the Joker to Arkham Asylum, but the Joker breaks loose and releases inmates to cover his escape. Batman has to restore order to Arkham Asylum and recapture the Joker. The question is should the game be locked up in its own asylum, or is the game mentally stable?
Graphics-The graphics in Arkham Asylum are both dark and gritty, and this pulls the atmosphere together, which helps. The characters look awesome, and Batman’s flowing cape is a nice touch as well.
Sound-Having voice actors who portrayed Batman and the Joker (Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, respectively) from the 1992 animated series really makes the sound all the more enjoyable. Also having Arleen Sorkin portray Harley Quinn from the animated series is also awesome.
Gameplay-The combat is smooth and fight scenes are action packed. The only negative is that it’s easy to mix up targets during intense fights, which could lead to getting hit. The upgrades are also well crafted, as each makes the game slightly easier each time you upgrade. There are stealth elements, but there isn’t as many as in other stealth games. Detective mode makes stealth elements easier, and is vital to solving the riddles.
Replay Value-Even if you complete the game, there’s still solving the Riddler’s riddles and collecting trophies. The challenge mode does add replay value as well.
Overall-A lot of effort went into this game, and it is very easy to tell that the developers did an awesome job. Having the original voice actors from the animated series is a plus.
