Bastone Brewery in Royal Oak is always coming up with something new. It may be burgers, comfort food, Irish Fest or some other theme. One thing you can count on though, is imaginative food and great beer.
This month’s feature—pizza and a pint. What’s new about this combo? The pizzas are creative and tasty. And the beer—the first one is on Bastone! Here are your choices:
- Monumental Blonde – An American-style light beer with soft malt and hop flavors
- Main Street Pilsner - A Bohemian style pilsner with a moderate hop and malt character
- Witface - A Belgian style white ale brewed with orange, lemon and coriander
- Royal IPA - An American-style India Pale Ale with a strong hop and malt presence
- Dubbel Vision - A Belgian-style amber ale brewed with candi-sugar and dried dark fruits
- Nectar des Dieux Triple - A Belgian style strong golden ale with light fruity notes and a hint of sweetness, 9% ABV
- Seasonals – This month’s seasonals include the 2010 World Beer Cup silver medal winner in the French/Belgian category, Saison du Bastone, and Harvest Ale, which is made with pumpkin spices.
Pizzas have always graced the menu at Bastone Brewery. This month, Chef Robert Young provides a selection of artisan pies that pair perfectly with a free pint of award-winning craft beer. This special is available Monday - Thursday evenings through November 30.
On my visit, I tried the Sicilian, with a tasty roasted tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese, and then loaded with ham, pepperoni, prosciutto and capicolla. The ham had a nice smokey taste, while the capicolla added a bit of heat. This pie is for meat lovers, and I loved every bite.
Other pizzas include:
- Buffalo – Crisp fried chicken filets, housemade hot sauce and blue cheese
- Ahi - Chili soy sauce, seaweed duo and fresh mozzarella is topped with slices of a separately grilled herbed Ahi tuna
- Vegetable Pesto – Basil pesto, sundried tomatoes, marinated tomatoes, wild mushrooms and herbed goat cheese
For dessert, be sure to check out the Caramel Apple Pizza with braised Michigan apples, caramel sauce, and a raspberry glaze.
Bastone Brewery is located at 419 S. Main Street, Royal Oak
