This boxed set contains a unique plug and play DVD-driven format along with Chan’s teaching focuses on essential basics of the Trinity. The BASIC film series combines Chan’s solid Biblical teaching with high-impact creative storytelling, and the new small group resource adds an extensive study and discussion element for group interaction.
In the first part of the study, Fear God, Chan teaches that coming to God means fearing God. He goes on to explain that this fear is exactly what the word states; a fear of a holy, supernatural, all-powerful God. A fear that, when people came into His presence, they would faint in terror. In the second part, Follow Jesus, Chan explains that when Jesus called someone to follow Him, He told them it was not going to be easy. The third part, Holy Spirit is a comparison of the Spirit-empowered early Church verses the predictable, organized modern Church. Throughout each lesson, however, Chan explains the hope for freedom and security after we release ourselves in fear to God, the blessings in following Jesus as a servant, the power available through the Holy Spirit.
The videos shift between Chan teaching and short vignettes of a young woman in a room filling with water, a young man trying to choose any other path but the clearly marked one and a young girl in a room, trying to rip off layers of wall paper.
Chan’s teachings are refreshing in their down-to-basics lessons. The vignettes are a bit art nouveau and would probably appeal to youth groups.
In addition to the first three BASIC films and seven interactive sessions based on the films, the BASIC.WHO IS GOD? resource includes six copies of the WHO IS GOD? Follower’s Guide,which featuresgroup questions, prayer, personal reflection and Bible study. The final element of this small group resource is a DVD full of “extras,” such as video clips for churches, sermon outlines for pastors, video trailers, posters, flyers, leader’s tips, and more.
