Pinot Grigio is one of the hottest grape varietals lately. It is easy to say, makes you sound like you can speak Italian, it even has a sexy ring to it. It has also been planted all over the world; you can find Pinot Grigios made in California, Australia, Argentina and beyond. France has, Pinot Gris, same grape, different flavor profile then its Italian brother. Oregon wineries usually call their Pinot Grigios Pinot Gris, likening their style more to France’s Alsace.
With so many choices what do you choose to drink? Banfi, Le Rime, Pinot Grigio, 2012 grown in Tuscany’s southern slopes is a good choice. Pale straw in color and very aromatic. Its nose is filled with faint lemon, pear, peach, wild flowers and some minerals. The palate is alive with lemon-lime, pear, apples and wet stones. It is balanced nicely with crisp acidity and a short finish.
Enjoy this wine as an aperitif with cheese and salumi platters place on the table before dinner starts.
