From the get go, Avenged Sevenfold’s sixth studio release, “Hail The King” is all about bringing their A(7X)-game. Released here in the states, yesterday August 27th, 2013. It’s the 1st album with new drummer, Arin Ilejay, who became an official member in 2013 after “The Rev”’s passing.
It starts with heavy riffs and power vocals from M Shadows right off the bat, (sick pun, huh?) with “Shepherd of Fire”. Then on to it’s successful first radio single, the title track, “Hail To The King”. A7X have gone back to basics, producing raw, ass kicking, riot inducing power chords, and bringing back the beginnings of rock that is Sabbath-esque. A couple of ballads make this album less attractive in the eyes of the true metalhead but as with any metal album, you take the good with the not as good. With any album these days, is it worth the price tag? The answer, from the bowels of hell to the yes.
So pick up your copy of “Hail To The King” and get ready for your chance to check out these “Gods of metal” this Labor Day weekend, as the headliners @ the 1st annual Rockstar Energy Drink Locura Festival @ Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Englewood on Sunday, September 1st.
