Avant-garde 'Reversed Wine & Yoga Fly' dinner until March 31 (Photos)

Bed Supperclub is well known for pushing boundaries, and guests have come to "expect the unexpected" when it comes to dining and entertainment. On Thursday, 14 March 2013, Bed Supperclub; in association with Pilates Station, launched “REVERSED” a 4-course set wine dinner where guests are presented with a gourmet meal and matching wine courses of sweet wine, followed by red, white wine and concluding with a sparkling wine. This stunning dinner is accompanied by a lively Yoga Fly aerial performance priced at $64.31USD++ (1,900Baht) per person. You are invited to come and enjoy this spectacular event from now until the end of March 2013.

The Show & Vibe

If you enjoy the voyeuristic pleasure of watching perfectly sculpted human specimens in skin tight body suits stretching and slithering about before your eyes, then Yoga Fly is right up your alley. It's a gravity defying spectacle that leaves you feeling all at once mesmerized, and woefully out of shape all at the same time. Yoga Fly is a skillful practice where the performers wrap themselves in fabric that hangs from the ceiling in an artistic performance that was introduced to Thailand by Patricia Duchaussoy. “I was immediately seduced by Patricia Duchaussoy’s idea. We, at Bed, like to celebrate beauty in all forms and the practice of yoga is graceful. Plus, if we add the idea of defying gravity, there is poetry in it.” shared Creative Director, Sanya Souvanna Phouma.

In addition to three intriguing Yoga Fly performance sets, all guests are additionally treated to the always appreciated free mini Thai massages by the omni-present in-house masseuses who diligently rub all your tension away as you sit back and relax on the large communal bed and dine amidst a sea of white sheets and fluffy pillows.

The Cuisine

The dinner features a 4-course set menu designed by Chef Edoardo Bonavolta and includes four glasses of hand-picked wines by Giulio Saverino, the mastermind behind the wine and culinary arts revival at Bed Supperclub. “The intention is to simply expand one’s perception of food and wine pairings by reversing the order in which the wines are traditionally served. The appetizer will be matching the sweet wine but it will obviously not be a dessert. As for the transition to the main course, to propose a white wine after a red wine is an exciting challenge he said.

First course is Foie Gras Torchon Brulee w/ Pineapple & Aged Balsamic Vinegar paired with Pegasus Bay Aria Late Picked Riesling, 2008 from New Zealand. The portion of the foie gras is quite large and the combination of the rich pate, the sweet pineapple and the sweet wine may be a bit overwhelming unless you have a real sweet tooth. The second course of Paccheri Pasta w/ Chorizo, Zucchini, Saffron Sauce & Shave Jamón Iberico paired with Burnt Spur Pinot Noir, 2011 from New Zealand is more successful. The pasta is chewy and fresh and the saffron sauce and chorizo are well matched. Next is the main course of Baked Lamb Loin w/ Castelmagno Cheese Fondue & Brussels Sprouts paired with a luscious white burgundy form France called Verget Les Chenevottes, Chassagne-Montrachet, 2007. Perhaps my favorite course is the White Chocolate, Passion Fruit & Chocolate Milk Soup w/ Fresh Berries served with Lambrusco Amabile Fizzante Casali from Italy. This course was surprising on several levels as the sparkling wine is a red and not a white or rose as expected. The soup is ingenious, as it is perfectly balanced with tart notes form the passion fruit and fresh berries, and was not too thick, rich, creamy or sweet. It is unlike any dessert soup you will ever try and the more you eat it the more you enjoy and want to go back for more.

The Verdict

Bed Supperclub gets points for innovation and creativity when it comes to this event. They are truly bucking tradition by creating a wine pairing dinner that challenges conventional thinking. What I really like about this experience is that it is the kind of meal you are bound to have a response to, its outside the box, and while you might not love everything, you are bound to remember it, and talk about it and have an opinion on it. The yoga fly is also very entertaining, and overall the evening is a memorable one. To reserve your seats call +662 651 3537 or +6688 525 0101 or email to info@bedsupperclub.com.
