Auramancer is Ajani’s green/white enchantment-centric deck found in the Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 expansion. Auramancer is very fast and includes a few incredibly powerful cards such as Rancor, but can greatly benefit from a few unlockable additions. Let’s look at the decklist and see how Auramancer measures up to other Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 options.
Decklist:
1x Wreath of Geists
1x Spectral Rider
Unlockables:
Auramancer has the tools for a degenerate early win if the correct cards are collected. Small creatures and Rancor can run over most decks even in the face of consistent removal. A suited up Silhana Ledgewalker is very difficult to deal with and will often just continue to pummel your opponent until dead.
Aura Gnarlids become enormous with all the sticky spells on the board, and are also near impossible to get in front of. If you’re looking for a deck that can pull off speedy wins with juiced up creatures, Auramancer is the deck for you. Opponents will have very little time to react to your assault forces and even when they can, totem armors, hexproof, and blocking problems will all come into play.
There are a few cards you won’t miss from the main deck while fixing up Auramancer. Siege Mastadon makes little sense and is clumsy, and you can easily switch out some of the vanilla Silvercoat Lions.
You’re definitely going to want to get the classic Armadillo Cloak in there, along with Angelic Destiny, Auramancers, and Boar Umbras. You can take out some of the superfluous enchantments in the main deck to make space for these substantially more efficient tweaks.
Ajani’s Auramancer is an excellent deck choice and can hold its own against any Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 deck. Although there is certainly some risk of “sputtering out” and losing steam as the game progresses, most of Auramancer’s draws present a potent early and mid game that your opponent won’t easily recover from.
If you’re a fan of pumping up your creatures while hedging your bets against removal, Auramancer is a great option to consider.
