Thursday, November 14, the Rio Theatre presented a special screening of Random Acts of Romance, starring Amanda Tapping and Zak Santiago. The movie hit the VIFF film circuit in 2012, after which it went to Toronto and back to Vancouver for this special night at the Rio.
The theatre was jam packed full of special guests invited by the film's director, Katrin Bowen, many in attempts of being setup on blind dates by the spunky director, herself. Katrin has been quoted as jokingly classifying the film's genre as an "anti rom-com"(anti romantic comedy).
Random Acts of Romance has been recognized by many prestigious award associations by being nominated for many awards since it's release. The Vancouver International Film Festival 2012 nominated the flick for Best Canadian Feature Film. B.C.'s own Leo Awards nominated it for 4 awards in 2013, including best direction and best screenwriting. It was also nominated by the Vancouver Film Critics Circle 2013 nominated for Best British Columbia Film.
After the Rio Theatre's screening of Random Acts of Romance, the audience was in for a treat as the film's director, Katrin Bowen, producer, Darren Reiter and cast members, Zak Santiago, Laura Bertram and Sonja Bennett all gathered on stage to discuss the making of the movie. Audience members were allowed to ask their own questions regarding the film.
One of the great things about the feature film was that it was filmed in Vancouver and didn't pretend to be Seattle or any other American city, which is an all too common occurrence.
With international distribution currently in the works, Random Acts of Romance will soon be coming to a theatre near you. Check it out when it does but in the meantime, you can check out the film's imdb page here.
