Producing Artistic Directors and Co-directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott outdid themselves with the return production of Charles Dickens’ holiday masterpiece “A Christmas Carol” which opened at A Noise Within on Saturday, November 7, 2013. Geoff Elliott’s adaptation hits all the right notes in this classic tale of love, loss and redemption. The 2012 production was wonderful, but there are many delightful new treats awaiting audience members this year.

As narrator, Robertson Dean helps weave the tale with wit, warmth and authority. Elliott as Scrooge turns in a splendidly nuanced performance; it is difficult to draw eyes away from him. But all the ghosts and the stellar ensemble are equally riveting. Audiences are not likely to see a more powerful entrance of Jacob Marley (Mitchell Edmonds) back from the grave to rattle Scrooge’s cage before it’s too late.

Music composed by Sound Designer Ego Plum was sung beautifully with delicious harmonies and for the most part contributed to the storytelling, but some of the refrain reprises did seem to interrupt the flow.

Jeanine A. Ringers’ open scenic design was inventive and effective. Two thumbs way up for Angela Balogh Calin’s costume design; Marley’s twinkle-lighted jacket and Christmas Past’s frothy white gown are two favorites. Kudos also to Caity Hawksley for very festive wig, hair and makeup design.

In addition to being a thoroughly entertaining rendition, this “Christmas Carol” is a technical marvel. It’s the perfect sort of holiday production to make the holidays more merry and bright for the whole family. Don’t miss it!
