Just because a restaurant’s menu offers burgers, hot dogs, and fries does not necessarily imply that it is a fast-food restaurant. This premise certainly proves true in the case of Athens Gyros and Kebabs in Yorkville. With a menu variety diverse enough to appeal to a wide variety of diners, and a quality and flavor sure to please even the most discerning tastes, the friendly and knowledgeable owners and staff ensure that every order is treated with precisely the attention it needs to provide an outstanding experience.
Athens spends a good deal of time with each of their menu items, and the quality and flavor are excellent examples of that. The hand-selected meat for the kebabs, marinated overnight in their signature house-recipe marinade, and then cooked fresh to order results in freshness, tenderness, and a flavor far superior to any fast-food experience. The seasoning is well-balanced, and the meat remains tender, producing a kebab that can be enjoyed on its own merits, or in a sandwich.
The menu also includes high-quality gyros, rich and tender, on soft pita bread sufficient enough to handle the volume of meat piled onto it, yet light enough to allow the full flavor of the gyro meat to come through. Gyros range from $4 for a junior to $8 for a platter which includes fires. The Gyros Feats runs right around $30 for three pounds of meat and enough pita bread and sides to create twelve full-size sandwiches.
Burgers are one-hundred percent pure beef, and range in price from $3 for a single to just about $6 for a double burger with bacon. Grilled Chicken Breast sandwiches range from $3 to $6, and pulled-pork and ribs from Athens’ own wood-burning stove range from $6 to $13 for the full BBQ Rib Tip Platter which includes fries garlic bread, and slaw. The rest of the diverse menu offers salads, “out of this world” beef and sausages, a Vienna Beef hot dog, “Philadelphia Phillies” sandwiches, wings and seafood, and an appetizer menu offering everything from rice pilaf to homemade soups and pizza puffs. Full catering packages are available to feed as many as forty to forty-five people, call for pricing and details.
