Astrology and Your Lucky Star

All those who first embark on a journey to learn something new usually need a guidebook of some kind. I have recently discovered the perfect one for those who wish to delve deeper in to the ancient art of astrology. Using the sun signs of the zodiac as guideposts, Astrologer/Author Ann Combs took 10 years to refine her new book, 'Astrology and Your Lucky Star', but it is truly well worth the wait! With well over 3 decades of experience in the astrological process, Ann has earned the right to be one of the most informative astrologers of the Pacific Northwest.

I recently was afforded an interview with Ann who graciously answered my questions:

EXAMINER:  What was the impetus for your initial interest in astrology?

ANN:  In a nutshell:  watching my parents remarry partners with more compatible charts & being happier convinced me of the validity of astrology!

EXAMINER: Your book seems to be directed to those who are new to astrology and who are seeking to learn more about the signs,  in particular...what advice would you give to the novice astrologer?

ANN:  To anyone who is working to become an astrologer my advice would be to find the best astrologer and study with them. It doesn't hurt to read a lot of good books on the subject either. I think ' Secrets From A Stargazer's Notebook' by Debbie Kempton-Smith is an excellent introduction to astrology.

EXAMINER: Your work seems to concentrate mostly on the positives of each sign in western astrology...what about the associated and inevitable negatives?

ANN:  The people I write for are good-hearted, amazing and often humanitarians. I write to align, empower and inspire the good people in the world. There are plenty of books that point out the bad and un-evolved side of people. There are some negative commentaries in my book for every sign-a brief one in the basic nature and another in the love and romance section. The negatives constitute a very small part of my writings!

EXAMINER:  Modern day astrologers differ on various themes such as house systems, introverted vs. extroverted hemispheres, 4th vs. 10th house mother/father assignments and the like. How can you best explain to someone just learning astrology the validity of those varying opinions?

ANN:  I use the Koch house system for my readings. I have had my chart read using other house systems and personally the Koch was so much more accurate it convinced me. It also takes into consideration the elevation of the earth which I think is very important for accuracy!   As for the beliefs of others I explain to people that there are lots of mistakes that are sadly copied and carried on by astrologers! I can't speak for them. I am progressing the science of astrology and expanding the information that is already there. I am also trying to correct what I feel is only partially true or just plain incorrect.

EXAMINER:  During your many years of astrological experience, if you had to select one component of astrology that you deem to be the most important, what would that be?

ANN:  I am a ‘planets- in- houses’ reader-I think the house the Sun is in is very important along with the rising. I think the rising is the most important factor in a reading! The planets may tell what happens but the houses tell you when and where! The houses are also considered the deeper reading and I agree with that idea. So I read all twelve houses for each person.
