Asassin's Creed 4 Freedom Cry DLC

Assassin’s Creed 4 turned out to be the shot in the arm the series needed, seamlessly morphing from a stealth action game into an open world pirate simulator, and there are endless possibilities when it comes to the direction that any DLC could take the game in. The first story DLC for AC4 is here to plot that course and, like Black Flag itself, it reaches into the past to do so. It’s time to join old friends, and new, for another round of ship to ship combat with a side of liberation and justice. It’s time to hear the Freedom Cry.

The Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag DLC takes you a few years into the past, in relation to Edward Kenway’s story, and puts you in the shoes of the Jackdaw’s quartermaster, Adawale. After finding himself without a ship, and without a crew, he must choose between his priorities as an member of the Brotherhood and those of his people who find themselves enslaved and scattered around the Caribbean.

Most of the action in Freedom Cry will be centered in and around the city of Port Au Prince. This doesn’t mean that you will only be sneaking and assassinating though as you will soon gain access to a ship and be able to take part in the same great pirate style gameplay that you are used to from the main story in Black Flag. Being an Assassin himself, Adawale will have access to many of the same skills and much of the same arsenal as Edward but with a few new additions.

The main story missions will clock in at around four hours in length but there is much more to be done during your time with Freedom Cry. This DLC acts as a sort of microcosm of the main game, allowing you to explore a section of the world map that is smaller than that of the main campaign, but still quite large in its own right. There are plenty of areas to explore, ships to battle, and plantations to liberate. Players who care to stick around will be here for much longer than they are used to in an Assassin’s Creed DLC adventure.

The Freedom Cry DLC is like a miniature version of the main campaign in Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag. It mixes the Assassin side of things perfectly with the pirate side of things, while allowing for just the right amount of freedom. Much like Black Flag, the story won’t blow you away but Freedom Cry will show you a different side of the story while reminding you what you loved about the game to begin with. If you were a fan of Black Flag, grab this DLC as soon as you can.
