Asia i Koty: 'Miserable Miaow' (2012)

"Miserable Miaow" by Asia i Koty is a melancholy and stripped down Singer-Songwriter album that focuses mostly on trance like heavily layered vocal repetitions.

Instrumentally "Miserable Miow" usually plays back and forth between two chords, either on a guitar, piano, or organ. At times other instrumental textures are added to this very sparse production, and fill things out just a bit more.

The vocals are the real highlight of the record, with the instrumentals obviously just serving as a frame for Koty's voice. Delicate harmonies and rich vocal layering decorate nearly every piece of "Miserable Miaow", with themes that can relay a heartbreaking innocence, or simply draw the line between fragility and strength.

Songs like "The Ride" are more verse driven songs, with lyrics that wander around a point rather than repeating a particular line to express it. This adds some more dynamic to the album by adding a different shade of storytelling, and painting with a detail that forces the listener to try and follow every word instead of just getting lost in a single expression that can be open for interpretation.
