Airing on the CW tonight at 8pm, Arrow: Year One chronicles how Oliver Queen's journey into becoming "the Hood", the vigilante archer bringing justice those who've failed the people of Starling City.
The first season follows Oliver (Stephen Amell) returning home to Starling City after being stranded on an island for five years with the willingness to not only survive, but also the drive, determination, and dedication to right his family's wrongs by targeting those of his late father's list: rich and powerful individuals who are responsible for turning Starling City into a hotbed of crime and corruption.
As he sets out to save Starling City, Oliver struggles with to reconnect with his family and friends, which includes being involved in a love quadrangle involving his alter-ego, his attorney ex-girlfriend Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and best friend Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) whose father Malcolm (John Barrowman) is connected to what happened to Oliver and his father.
Oliver also incurs the wrath of Laurel's father Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthrone), a SCPD detective who is determined to catch "the Hood" but finds himself (reluctantly) working with the vigilante.
Arrow is the closest thing to bringing Batman on the small screen because this is an adult-oriented superhero show, with the writers not sticking to the formula of Oliver targeting people from his father's list week after week. Still, it gives female fans a reason to see Stephen Amell shirtless whenever his character is working out in his "Arrow" cave before hooding up to take down the bad guys.
The first half of season one was good, but Arrow found his aim in the second half with one episode after another, as he takes on China White (Kelly Hu), Deadshot, the Dodger, Count Vertigo, and the Dark Archer.
The first season of Arrow is available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
Season 2 premieres next Wednesday at 8pm.
