Armadillo Grill restaurant review

My friend text me the other day that she had a Groupon to Armadillo Grill, located at 1904 East Camelback Road in Phoenix, for $30 that she needed to use within the next couple days. Happy to oblige, we headed over there for dinner on a Tuesday evening. This would be my first visit and had no idea what to expect. Upon entering the premises, my first thought was how dark and dingy it was on the inside. I felt like I was walking into a really old restaurant/bar, which kind of scares me when it comes to the food. The floor design was bit off as well with a small arcade to the right of the entrance, the square bar set smack dab in the middle of the place, booths set behind a half wall barrier, and other tables and chairs surrounding the bar. Again, not a totally inviting atmosphere. Either way, we chose a booth.

Taking a look at the menu, it was hard to truly decipher exactly what type of cuisine they were shooting for. There were items from Korean BBQ pork Tostadas to Thai chicken skewers....and pastas to a buffalo chicken sandwich. Always wanting to try as much as possible, and to meet our $30 spending limit, we decided to order a couple salads and a couple appetizers. My 13 year old niece was also dining with us, so of course, we ordered the cheese quesa "dillo" for her, whic was your basic cheesy quesadilla served with guacamole, sour cream and salsa. But for the adults at the table, we decided to try the Korean BBQ pork tostadas, a small Greek salad, and the seared salmon noodle salad.

The Greek salad arrived first, which let me just say, was one of the better Greek's I have had...even the lettuce was decent. The Korean BBQ pork tostadas were also tasty in flavor, but severely lacked moisture. If the meat was more moist, sticking with the same flavors, this app could be a knock-out. The best dish was definitely the seared salmon noodle salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked, sitting on top of a bed of soba noodles with some mixed greens, dressed in a sweet soy balsamic vinaigrette. Delicious! I may go back for this appetizer alone, otherwise, it was just a nice surprise to have some good food at Armadillo Grill. Check it out for yourself.
