With the world just having celebrated the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series, super spies and espionage are on everyone's mind and while on one end we have the world's most famous spy on the other we have the hilarious send up of the spy game. Right before the beginning of the fourth season that begins on FX, it's time to take a look at the adventures of the most hilarious super spy on television today. It's time for "Archer: The Complete Season Three".
"Archer" was created by Adam Reed.
For another season we join suave master spy Sterling Archer (voiced by H Jon Benjamin) and his team at ISIS for another hilarious season of over-sexed, hard drinking espionage and mass insanity. With a massive crisis brewing aboard the International Space Station, the Earth may be in serious danger, however the world's most dangerous secret agent has much bigger problems. Archer's dead fiancée returns to life as a cyborg, his nemesis Bionic Barry takes over the KGB and Archer's mother has some steamy affairs with both the Italian Prime Minister but also Archer's man-crush; the one the only Burt Reynolds.
Trying to tell the jokes, doesn’t really do “Archer” the appropriate justice, as it works so well on so many levels. A vintage look with a modern feel, “Archer” effectively walks the line between spy drama and office sitcom for some of the most effective laughs on television. The ensemble voice cast has settled into their roles with a great amount of vigor, with H. Jon Benjamin who also voices on Bob’s Burgers, as well as several veterans of Arrested Development & SNL rounding out the voice cast, these talents elevate the whip-smart and borderline brilliant writing for gut busting laughs. The stories are stand alone yet still manage to arc over seasons as the team at ISIS get into adventures that are even more twisted and more hilariously warped. The ensemble cast have an excellent off hand chemistry with one another and the zingers fly at such a break neck speed that we as an audience barely have a chance to catch our breath. There also some special guest star voices that I won't spoil for you because they are just that much fun. It's excellent stuff throughout 13 killer episodes where the laughs are non-stop.
Special features on this 2 disc DVD set include audio commentary on select episodes, an enhanced look at the 'Heart of Archness' trilogy, Cooking with Archer, a Book-on-Tape Fail, the Gator 2 trailer and a look at Archer at Comic Con 2012.
With this 3rd season; "Archer" just keeps the laughs going and if you enjoy some dirty and satirically sharp laughs then this show is for you.
4 out of 5 stars.
