Apple Valley’s hot spot Frogee's was turned inside out and rocked to its core, hosting Tragic End, Eken Is Dead, and Sexocide. If you were anywhere near the High Desert last weekend, this was the place to be and the show to see. If you missed the show this is what went down.
Meet Tragic End: Travis - Guitar & Vocals, James - Guitar & Vocals, Chris - Bass, and John - Drums. Influenced by 90's grunge/metal, death metal, Aggro-tech, & Industrial, this band fuses all the sounds together to make a must see set. First to take the stage for the evening, this band hit the crowd like a fist, getting fans to the floor and rocking their hometown turf. I have seen them before and will see them again becauseTragic End always puts on a great set. Their lead singer Travis engages the crowd between songs, cracking jokes and setting up the crowd for a great time.
Eken is Dead: All I can say is WOW! Chris Navarrete - vocals, Vic Arevalo - guitar, Gagg Green - bass (playing all 6! strings), and Jake Hanson - drums comprise this killer crue. This band out of the South Bay (Los Angeles), CA, is a mix of hard core music and sex appeal. Lead Vocalist Chris Navarrete is a show all by himself, jumping off stage into the crowd and into your face, and then onto the bar, back into the crowd, and around and around again. If you want more than a show and want to be part of the experience, check out Eken is Dead. This was my first Eken is Dead experience but I recommend that everyone go see them.
Sexocide, comprised of David Czech- Lead vocals & guitar, Dayne Michaels- Lead guitar , Lauren Weatherford - Bass, and Jorden Marshall - Drums, closed out the evening in the High Desert. It is not just a female bass player that sets this Lucerne Valley, CA band apart from others, it is their look. A Gothic/Metal meets the Sunset Strip look gives the band a visual appeal to match its sound. With a Progressive Rock/Alternative Rock sound this band needs to be added to your "must see live" list.
To sum up the night: heart pounding and face melting. All the bands took the stage and engaged the crowd, spewing sic lyrics, great sound, and giving a great show. I would recommend any one of these bands to see live. You never know who is playing and where. It was a "Cheers" type of atmosphere where everyone new everyone at Frogee's. If you were a newcomer you were welcomed and treated like a local. I got to experience the High Desert with killer music, old friends, new bands, and new friends. That is what a show is about; music bringing together the masses. As always, support local music!
