Another great experience for you and your children (Photos)

The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, is one of the few Museums in the United States, that has an exclusive focus on the; History, Culture, and Arts of the American Indian. Here in Evanston, Illinois, we are so very fortunate to have the honor of housing this Museum, which is located at 3001 Central Street.

The museum is open to the public, Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5 pm, and offers extended hours on Thursdays until 8 pm, it is also open on Sundays from 12 pm-4 pm. The admission is $5 per adult and $3 per child, with the last Friday of the month offering free admission. This is a cost efficient and readily accessible place to bring your Children and Family, for several hours of activity and exploration

.
Included in your visit are; child friendly touch tables, DIY craft projects, and a child size wigwam to sit in. On Saturdays and Sundays, as part of the admission are docent led kid craft activities, and during the month of January your child can create several different Native American inspired crafts which include; Quill Boxes, Dream Catchers, and Northwest Coast Masks. By participating in these craft projects children can grasp the concepts of the cultural diversity of the Native American people.

As you and your Family traverse through the Museum you can enter into the world of the woodland Indians, by sitting in a reproduction of a wigwam, trying on a buckskin shirt, feeling differing animal pelts, viewing Native American clothing and jewelry, and holding the tools that were utilized by the Native American people. While you continue to survey your surroundings you will be aware of the many activity tables that are set-up for the purpose of touching and holding a wide range of objects and raw materials.

The Mitchell Museum is a child-friendly museum, which encourages children to understand our lands heritage and indigenous peoples culture in a; peaceful, safe, and productive manner. In quoting a ten-year-old child, as she left the Museum, “That Museum was awesome!” You couldn’t ask for a better response, as you plan an experience for you and your Family.
