With the nice spring weather, we decided to drive the twenty five miles to Galveston for lunch. We wanted to include our goldendoodle, Annie, on this adventure. Annie is a good girl who loves to make new friends.
A search of Galveston restaurants that are dog friendly produced the Mosquito Café. We had fond memories of meals eaten there in the past, but did not know they were canine friendly. Dogs are welcome in the patio area.
What an interesting place, the Mosquito Café. It is located in the Historic East End, away from the tourist haunts. The clientele include a following of locals and medical professionals. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing.
Over the years, the café has been selected as one of the top 15 restaurants in the Houston metropolitan area, best overall restaurant in Galveston county, best business lunch and number one in friendliest service.
And then there is the menu. My first meal there was breakfast. I will never forget the Mosquito Benedict, “a house baked scone, covered with sautéed shrimp, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, fresh asparagus and poached eggs topped with Hollandaise sauce”. Need I say more?
The lunch menu was unique. No fried offerings here. We loved our choice of asparagus soup and vegetable tacos. The portions were generous and delicious.
Annie appreciated the bowl of water she was brought by one of the waiters.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Mosquito Café and would recommend it to anyone wanting to take their dog with them to lunch.
And the icing on the cake, so to speak, is the Patty Cakes Bakery across the street, where desserts are spectacular. They can also be purchased at the Mosquito Café.
