MY TOP PICKS
• Jessica Chastain nails it as a CIA agent and for classic Hollywood glamour. "It was a very tough decision," the Oscar nominee says of her Giorgio Armani gown, accessorized with Harry Winston diamonds. You made the right one, Agent Maya.
• Charlize Theron never misses. This year she wore Harry Winston jewels and a pristine white peplum Dior Haute Couture. Again, classic beauty.
• Next is Naomi Watts in a sequined gunmetal Armani Privé gown and $1.5 million worth of Neil Lane diamonds. Sparkling and sexy.
• Nicole Kidman took a fashion risk in a stunning, body hugging L’Wren Scott gown and Fred Leighton jewelry.
And these leading ladies would look good in a “Lucy & Ethel in Paris” potato sack:
• Despite all her romantic trauma, Halle Berry just keeps getting more and more beautiful. For this year’s Oscars, she wore a plunging metallic Versace gown with Adeler Jewelers earrings and a Le Vian ring. Breathless Bond Girl does it again.
• Salma Hayek looked absolutely ravishing in her Alexander McQueen and a Cindy Chao headpiece.
• Jane Fonda wore a yellow Versace gown and Chopard jewelry. She is 75 years old. THIS is 75. Need I say more? Fonda is an actress, fitness instructor, entrepreneur, philanthropist, activist and blogger. Oh yeah… and has a hot and uber successful boyfriend, Richard Perry. Whenever I am tired, I need to get over myself and think of our dear Jane.
• Sally Field, 66, in Valentino and Martin Katz jewelry. Sally Field looks the best I’ve ever seen her. Yes, Sally, we have always really liked you but now we really, really like your sensual style. What took you so long?
MY WORST PICKS
• From a mile away, it looked like you could see through the top of Hathaway's pale pink Prada gown. The two big seams in the dress acting like arrows didn't help either. On the red carpet, Hathaway divulged that she decided three hours before the Oscars to go with the Prada dress instead of a pre-planned Valentino. Not a wise decision.
• Something was off with Sandra Bullock’s look. Was it the hair? The makeup? The cap-sleeve Elie Saab gown did not do her justice. Or was it her state of mind?
• Helen Hunt’s navy blue strapless dress from H&M, which appeared not to have been steamed or ironed, is from the fashion chain's eco-friendly Conscious Collection. It was hardly a budget choice though: the gown was embellished in the back with $700,000 worth of diamonds. H&M is about to release a line of affordable evening wear and no doubt, Ms. Hunt was well paid to wear the dress. That being said, the dress should have been tailored to perfection and it wasn't.
SIMPLY OUTLANDISH
• Kelly Rowland is a gorgeous woman but this Donna Karan dress looked lopsided and out of proportion.
• Helena Bonham Carter stepped out on the red carpet looking rather Les Miserables in a layered black, grey and white Vivienne Westwood Couture gown. I get how she is artist and wants to buck the trends but this is Oscars. Have some respect.
• Naomie Harris also wore an eco-friendly dress designed by Michael Badger. Made of recycled zippers and vintage glass beads, the dress was quite a head turner with a slit that went way too far.
CLASS-ACT COUPLE
• Daniel Day-Lewis wore a midnight blue Domenico Vacca tuxedo, looking dapper with his wife Rebecca Miller, stunning in her black Dolce & Gabbana gown.
HOTTEST COUPLE
• Jamie Foxx suited up in Calvin Klein with Corinne Bishop in a perfectly-fitted, sensual blue J. Mendel gown. Turns out this stunning woman was his daughter!
BEST MAN
• Liev Schreiber also wore Calvin Klein with Harry Winston cufflinks and Tod’s shoes. He was in top model form.
Whew! I am exhausted!
Why they mush these red carpet events all in the space of two months, I’ll never know but I am glad it’s over. Now I can get back to my routine TV and movie viewing and of course, some snarky gossip.
