I have been hearing about the remarkable story recorded in Dying to Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True Healing (2012) for some time now. My pastor at the Unity Church I attend preached on it one Sunday, and other friends mentioned it. So, recently I finally got a copy from my library; I couldn't stop reading it once I picked it up.
This is the story of a multi-cultural woman, Anita Moorjani, who was trying to lead her life according to the various cultural and religious morays that surrounded and influenced her. She was happily married, but things turned sour when she contracted lymphoma. She tried to heal herself by natural means, even went to India to work with a guru. She became somewhat better, but when returning to her regular life in Hong Kong, the cancer came back. Four years into her experience with cancer, she became so sick that she was hospitalized.
However, when she on the verge of dying, Anita had a miracle take place: Instead of dying (in the hospital), while the medical staff was working on her and they were awaiting her brother to visit her from India, she had a near death experience! During the NDE she experienced a connection with infinity and All That Is. She also connected with her death father and a dear friend who had died not many years ago of cancer. She came to realize her Magnificence and true purpose on earth, and was told that she could come back to earth, enter her body, and be healed.
This is exactly what happened. She returned to her body and began to heal. The doctors and medical staff could not believe that this was happening and demanded ongoing tests to see if the cancer was still remaining in her body. Although Anita knew that she was going to heal completely, she allowed the medical staff to do what they needed and wanted to do. The upshot is that she did, three weeks later, get to go home after healing from the lymphoma thoroughly!
Dying to Be Me is a remarkable true story that I hope you, too, will have a chance to read. It will awaken you to the interconnected-ness of all things; but most of all, it will encourage you and embolden you to BE YOURSELF and Live Your Life FULLY. Wayne Dyer writes in his Foreword to the book that what he and his family learned from Anita's book that above all else, we are called to "love (our)selves, to treasure (our) magnificence, and to banish all potential disease-producing thoughts from (our) daily lives." Here are Anita's own final words in her book that encapsulate her message:
Always remember not to give away your power - instead, get in touch with your own magnificence. When it comes to finding the right path, there's a different answer for each person. The only universal solution I have is to love yourself unconditionally and be yourself fearlessly! This is the most important lesson I learned from my NDE, and I honestly feel that if I'd always known this, I never would have gotten cancer in the first place. (p. 185)
