"Heaven's Lost Property The Movie: The Angeloid of Clockwork" is, like the series it's spun off from, far from innocent fun, but it may interest the fans of the show.
If you're not familiar with "Heaven's Lost Property," the story is about a middle school student named Tomoki, who only wants his peace and quiet and is also an unashamed pervert. One day, while waiting for someone to meet him by the town's oldest tree, a big busted girl falls from the sky. The girl is an Angeloid named Ikarus, who is programmed to serve her master -- and her master ends up being Tomoki. Over the course of the original show, various other Angeloids end up joining his household, and also find themselves falling for Tomoki in the process.
Part of the appeal of the show is not only the action sequences but also the fanservice elements of the show. The movie doesn't disappoint in that regard. As an example, in one sequence, so that he wouldn't have to come to the club everyday, he tries to get Hiyori to quit through a series of perverted "tests."
After an introduction involving a giant chicken attacking the city of our heroes, we are introduced to Hiyori Kazane, a new character who tells her story for the next forty minutes of how she watched the New World Discovery Club from a distance and started to fall for lead character Tomoki. When the story starts proper, she decides to join the club, with Sugata and Angeloids Nymph and Ikarus nervous about her presence on Earth.
But even in the course of the nonstop silliness of the film, it does have its heart, such as when Hiyori expresses her feelings for Tomoki, not noticing his faults like the other girls do. And it has some good action sequences near the end.
The animation is the same quality as the show, so if you've watched the series you know what you're getting into. The voice acting on the dub is good, with the same actors as from the show.
Overall, if you're a fan of the show you'll like this movie. It's decent enough, with some good humor and action. And it's in keeping with the spirit of the show.
"Heaven's Lost Property The Movie: The Angeloid of Clockwork" will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on February 26, and is currently available for viewing on the FUNImation website to Elite subscribers.
