Mobster Paul Vitti (Robert DeNiro) is having a loss of confidence in his abilities. In his position as a mob boss this can lead to possible death. Who wants to take orders from a cuckoo? Vitti comes across a psychiatrist who was referred to him by some of his boys. It seems Dr. Ben Sobol (Billy Crystal) has been able to help some of the type of people Vitti hangs out with. Sobol really doesn't realize what he is getting into when he takes Vitti on as a patient.
You see Vitti feels that if he needs to talk to you it really doesn't matter what time it is he is going to talk to you. Thus Sobol and his fiance Laura (Lisa Kudrow) find out one night when Vitti shows up late. Now here is another problem, there is a big meeting of mobsters taking place in a couple of days. Vitti has to be ready for this or his enemy Primo Sidone(Chazz Palminteri) will try to take over the family.
What's even funnier is Sobol is getting married and all this time he is taking on Vitti is taking it's hold on Laura. She is starting to get annoyed by all the time Vitti is taking with Sobol.
Sobol is also getting some flack from the FBI about trying to get Vitti to talk about certain things that could put him in prison. This does interfere with Doctor/Patient confidentiality but they still are pestering the Doc for information about Vitti. Put all this together and you get one crazy movie.
Director Harold Ramis does a great job with this cast and brings you one of the funniest movies around. Billy Crystal along with Robert DeNiro makes for one funny movie. At times it gets a little crazy or zany would be a better word but it is a laugh a minute. So one Sunday afternoon when the weather is bad just sit back on the couch and laugh your self silly.
