An interesting wine shop in brooklyn

If you’re preparing to celebrate the New Year or planning a quaint dinner or just wanting a relaxing evening at home, there is an interesting wine shop in Brooklyn that has just what you need. Blue Angel Wines is a delightful neighborhood haunt in the Williamsburg area. Located at 638 Grand Street between Leonard and Manhattan, this rustic shop is filled with wines you may or may not have heard of. Most notably wines from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Austria and Australia. There are also wines from the U.S. including California, New York and Washington States. If kosher wine is your preference, they have this as well. They even have a section dedicated to organic wines (from most the aforementioned regions). The shop itself, gives the impression of early era 1800’s trading posts in the old western movies. There are no brand-name wines in this shop; they sell mainly wines from independent sellers and even a few are labeled as “land to hand”, meaning direct from the vineyard to the shop. One of nice things about this shop is they have wine tastings every Tuesday. This gives their customers a chance to sample wines they may have been curious about or pleasantly surprised by. Whether you’re into reds, whites, sparkling or rose, they have a bevy of choices to choose from. More recently, they started carrying sake. There are also plans for the future to expand their inventory to include spirits as well. They have a no minimum delivery service that starts at 5:00pm every evening which is another nice thing about them. In the very near future they plan to do a wine club with food pairings and wine tastings which would be perfect for the novice wine drinker. Their hours of operation are as follows; Monday through Thursday from 12:00pm until 10:00pm, Friday 1:30pm until 11:00pm, Saturday from 12:00pm until 11:00pm and Sunday, 12:00pm until 9:00pm. The late night closing hours would seem to be another nice quality this establishment offers that busy New Yorkers are sure to appreciate. The staff is pleasant; they offer their knowledge of wine for those who need help in their decision making. The mood of the shop is very relaxing and welcoming. Keep abreast of their website or stop in and sign-up for their email list to get updates. The shop is accessible from either the L train at the Grand Street stop or the J train a few blocks walk north from the Lorimer stop. So if you are open to trying new things or looking for a change of pace from your usual places to shop, this is one.
