Good news, yours truly, Gloria Blakely has just completed my first e-book, An African Safari for Jarvis (ISBN: 978-0-9849594-0-2) and an award-winning book at that. The manuscript won a Philadelphia Writers’ Conference Award. The finished product is now available from Amazon Kindle eBooks. Not too surprisingly, a portion of the sales will support wildlife in Tanzania.
It is the least I can do to honor the friend who inspired me to share my ecotour. She lost her battle against cancer in January. The last thing we talked about was when this children’s book would be published bearing her son's name. She will never see the final result, but it proved a pleasure to create.
Awesome Africa! Imagine waking a hyena in the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the greatest wonders in the world. Imagine settling in close enough to touch wildebeests along Lake Manyara or racing a baboon in the Serengeti. An African Safari for Jarvis delivers those adventures and more, all while helping to save wildlife in Tanzania.
This memoir shares a romp through Tanzania savannas with stories and photos for children’s viewing and reading pleasure. Photos and poetic captions are designed to entertain preschoolers and young readers, not to mention the parents bringing the descriptions on each page to life. Fanciful e-mail messages for middle readers draw them even further into the author's safari of a lifetime.
Three chapters, more than 10,500 words, and 54 nature photos reveal the Great Rift Valley and the animals dwelling there. In addition, a summary of facts about Tanzania, a glossary, and a reader Q&A with exercises serve to embellish an experience best enjoyed in color.
An African Safari for Jarvis is available from Amazon Kindle eBooks at the low introductory price of $3.99. The Kindle application can be downloaded, at no charge, onto PCs and many smart devices, including cell phones. Simply visit, www.amazon.com, select Kindle Books, and sign up. Do not be surprised by the pseudonym Gloria Ann. The name pays homage to my childhood.
