Its nice to be reminded of a time when slashers were fun and the only thing that mattered was a masked killer and a body count. If you are a fan of those movies then you will enjoy Bloody Homecoming. The movie is about a group of teens trying to enjoy their homecoming when a tragic accident leaves one of them dead. They shoot to senior year and the friends are now estranged from each other except for the secret they all hold. Well someone else knows their business and decides to go on a killing spree. This movie will make you think twice about firefighters.
There is a ton of things to like about Bloody Homecoming and the cast is hilarious. It's almost fitting the killer would wear a firefighter get up as this film's title reminds me of My Bloody Valentine but this movie is actually better. It has a nice little twist at the end even though when the killer is revealed that part tends to drag. I’m always a fan of who done it films as it is the key ingredient in making a good slasher.
The most surprising thing about Bloody Homecoming is the pace of the film which only allowed the short back story before the killings actually began. That unfortunately leads me to the part I disliked about Bloody Homecoming which was the killing. I liked the firefighter look as it was clean and smart but the execution was less than desirable. The initial killing was great but I mean how many times can you stab someone with a cheer baton. I hoped the kill scenes would be a little more involved and even though it was bloody it still didn't really work. For some it will lose them right there but Bloody Homecoming was better than I anticipated. Gore fans may want to pass on this as I feel they will be let down but if you like the traditional slasher mystery then I think you will enjoy Bloody Homecoming. I would have liked better killings but overall Bloody Homecoming is a nice ode to a fun time in horror.
Bloody Homecoming is available on DVD tomorrow September 24th. It is directed by Brian C. Weed and stars Jim Tavaré, Rae Latt, Lexi Giovagnoli, Alex Dobrenko, and Randi Lamey. It is being distributed by Image/RLJ Entertainment.
