Billy Allman possesses a heart of gold, a genius, but he cannot connect with people unless it’s through a microphone where people are listening to him on the radio.
The story is narrated between two voices. One is Billy, in which the story starts out and it’s his tenth birthday. The other is Billy’s guardian angel who when he received this assignment did not want it.But he does everything in his power to protect him including a meeting with the enemy angels to discover the evil which transpired in his life.
Unfortunately, this book is not available on audio. It was something I felt very strongly with two voices narrating it just like in the book itself. The character of Billy Allman’s voice was in my head throughout the story and felt real and will not leave you long after you are finished reading it.
Billy carries a brutal secret, in which he could have turned away from God. Instead, he embraced God and everything he did was in the grace of God.
At times especially in the beginning of the novel, it’s difficult to read with all the abuse Billy suffered and with the heartbreaks and tragedies and all. It makes you wish you could just walk into the pages of this book and protect him yourself. However, it’s so interesting and difficult to put down. For me, it only took about three days to read and that was with reading two other books at the same time. It’s finding out how sweet Billy turns out in the end and the choices he makes that is beautiful and intriguing. It's like a symphony played out before your eyes. The insight from the angel was also insightful.
“The people you read about in the Bible who are the special people aren’t really all that special. They’re just sinful people like you and me. What makes them special is the Lord himself. He delights in using the weak things and the despised things and things the world doesn’t have much time to notice.”
“Success is not seen in the circumstances or in the pain or the good feelings. Success, sometimes, is just loving somebody with a love that doesn’t come back the way you want it.”
