Paganini International Violin Competition gold Medal winner Alexander Markov thrilled the hometown crowd in Miami Springs with a tune-up to his Rock Concerto later this month at Fairchild Tropical Gardens. Markov, the acclaimed and brilliant young virtuoso’s audience was captivated by a broad range of his musical talents. Performing in his inimitable style with crossover appeal from the classical to rock, he enthralled everyone from pre-teen to senior. Drawn by the dichotomy of having a world class artist perform at a downtown public gazebo to an audience in lawn chairs and on blankets seemed a step back in time.
This artist bridges a gap between classical and rock. His musical journey takes him far beyond the play-list of a classical violin soloist. He has composed "Rock Concerto," an original composition collaborating with James V. Remington, who also designed a new six-string electric violin for him alone. The new patented instrument, a gold-plated electric violin with a glowing lighted bow is the only one of its kind in the world.
The instrument has a unique sound and the most enormous dynamic range from soft and sweet to the monstrous and powerful. Played through a Marshall amp intimating a rock music style, he closed off the show with an interpretive Star Spangled Banner, his neon red bow glowing bright.
Markov has appeared as a soloist with some of the world's most celebrated orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the BBC and the Montreal Symphonies, and has worked with major conductors including Neeme Jarvi, Christoph Eschenbach and Ivan Fischer.
Even at his young age Markov’s reputation as a 19th-century virtuoso of Paganini Caprices for solo violin has propelled him and his CD’s and videos to ‘rock star status’ among aficionados worldwide. With a debut in Carnegie Hall at the age of 16, he is garnering public acclaim with every performance.
"Rock Concerto" is a crossover epic which features Markov's performance on the new electric violin with his rock band, accompanied by a symphony orchestra and a chorus and will premier this concert in Miami on January 27th at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens.
