Album review: Resolution - Lamb Of God: A defining moment in time

Syracuse fans of extreme metal, American made and setting the trend worldwide, it has arrived at last. Lamb Of God’s Resolution is an apocalyptic rush of pure power, steel, and game setting musicianship. No band, anywhere, matches the pure aggression and deep thundering sound that Lamb Of God offers. No one. Check out the video for "Ghost Walking" just to your left.

This album, their 7th offering, is the torch bearer, the scene setter in the genre on the planet. That is a fact. The band has hit their creative stride with this album; you hear it on every note blaring through the speakers, every vicious assault on the drums, in every heavy throated snarl by vocalist Randy Blythe.

Three Grammy nominations along the way, a long trek with Metallica (wonder who ruled that stage?) and multiple debuts on Billboard’s Top Ten so many other bands do and have fallen off or disappeared all together. Lamb Of God apparently was just getting warmed up. This album, “Resolution”, is by far their best yet in my opinion. No wasted space, no formulated tracks or drums, no bullshit tricks and calling it a song or faking the actual playing of an instrument. These guys rule every aspect of their craft and it shines through on this album.

“Bands are disappearing with digital recording today. Things are progressing to the point where people are just playing a riff or a pattern and programming the drums, and at the end of the day, they have a technically perfect record, but it isn’t a real record. We didn’t do that. Our record is a REAL record” offers Randy Blythe.

He’s right of course. I know so many ‘musicians’ hiding behind Pro Tools and cheap alternatives that when they blast my social media pages with “Come check this out” or “Come see these 6 bands play”…..again? Nope. If it sucks and is soulless, I don’t give a rats ass and don’t hide behind that support local crap. If you want to get where Lamb Of God is, then change the game, play more, quit being a house band every week, and people will notice.

That said, Lamb Of God has recorded a masterpiece. Resolution could well be the album of the year and it’s only February. Now be a good little head-banger and go get this album! It’s vicious, in your face, and has the best damn riff I’ve heard in awhile on ‘In The End” as well as “Ghost Walking” The leads are wickedly done throughout this album. Since I always listen to the guitar work more than anything, I can only say that where these guys once made me pay attention through speed and power; they still do all of that, but have risen to a level of having feel within the thunderous assault of every song on this album. Every band has “That” album, the one that separates them from every other band in the world. Resolution may prove to be that album for Lamb Of God.
