Leland Sundries is an indie-folk band based in Brooklyn, NY. They released their sophomore EP entitled The Foundry EP this past Tuesday, February 21, 2012 and will be touring in support of the EP this spring.
The Foundry EP includes six tracks and in addition to providing vocals Nick Loss-Eaton, the mastermind behind Leland Sundries, plays a variety of instruments on the album including guitar, banjo, harmonium and harmonica. Despite being recorded in an old creamery building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn by a New York band, the combination of instruments and lyrics makes The Foundry EP sound a lot more like something that would come out of a place like Nashville. The overall sound is a combination of Americana, Jazz, Blues and Country. Vocally Nick Loos-Easton has a really deep and unusual voice, and while the musical element of the songs is frequently so good that it is heartbreaking, the vocals sometimes fall flat. This is definitely made up for by the clear musical talent on this album, but the vocals also gives is a very distinguishing sound. My favorite tracks on the album are "Apparition" and "Airstream Transmission," which are both worth a listen.
You can currently stream the EP for free on Soundcloud. Leland Sundries is also currently on tour, and will be in our area at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York, NY on April 8th, 2012. Check out The Foundry EP and see them live if you get a chance.
