Hank 3 has always had a creative mind, mixing vocals and instrumentation to form his own style of music. Not to be pigeonholed into one genre, you could say that he stands out on his own. Even coming from a long line of country music history running through his blood, he sets apart yet keeps in tradition. Hank 3 recently released two albums, "A Fiendish Threat" and "Brothers of the 4x4," this week.
With "Brothers of the 4x4," Hank 3 mixes a blend of Appalachian hillbilly country bluegrass stomp with a splash of shine. Easily any of these songs could find their way to the big screen as background music for movies or television shows on the real country ways of making a living. Several tracks are outstanding in their own right. Easily tunes such as "Hurtin for Certain," "Farthest Away," and "Lookey Yonder Commin" would be perfect to play amongst a Saturday night pickin' crew.
"Ain't Broken Down" is one of the haunting tunes with the echoes of steel guitar and the lonesome fiddle. The sorrowful tune is definitely reflective of the times of the hard worker trying to make a living and have some hope.
Hank 3 has succeeded in bringing together some of the best and original musicians to play on "Brothers of the 4x4." Combine with the meaningful and sometimes powerful song lyrics; you have yourself an album full of good music. Drop the tailgate, break out the guitar, add some fuel on the fire, and you have yourself a perfect collection of backwoods tunes to sing along.
