Album review: Breathing in Essence by Amber Spyglass

Amber Spyglass made their debut on to the music scene in the late nineties and have since played hundreds of live shows, and released three albums. Their latest EP, Breathing in Essence, was released in September and is a collection of five well-crafted, powerful songs that should be a part of everyone's music library.

Kelly Godshall and John DeGregorio are the musical masterminds behind Amber Spyglass. Kelly provides refreshing and crisp vocals, plays electric and acoustic guitars, and also writes the lyrics. John plays electric and acoustic guitars, bass, and is the reason for the flawless music programming. The EP, which can be found on iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp, and CD Baby, is the first EP of a series being released this year. The next EP is expected in April/May.

Amber Spyglass is currently performing as a semi-acoustic quartet. Along with Kelly and John, Anne Marie Bottcher plays cello and Rachel DiNoto plays the violin (and both musicians appear on Breathing in Essence). If you have the opportunity to see them play live, you won't be disappointed.

Track list: Harmonic Tide / Unfortunate One / On the Wire / Violent Silence / Like Lost Lovers
