Located where the old Fudd Ruckers used to be in New Brunswick on the northbound side of Route 1 is Aja, a relatively new restaurant and lounge offering a variety of Asian inspired appetizers, entrees and desserts as well as an extensive cocktail menu. Although from the outside the restaurant is easy to miss if you don't know it's there, the inside is decorated beautifully and has a very chic, very zen feel.
The menu at Aja offers a variety of different cuisines from all over Asia. There are items from Southeast Asia like Malaysian red curry and Pad Thai as well as classic Chinese dishes and Indian dishes like lamb vindaloo. The menu is extensive and these items are all worth trying but Aja is perhaps most famous for it's Japanese cuisine and sushi. Simple sushi and sashimi are available as well as specialty rolls like their foxy lady roll which comes with salmon, yellowtail, and avocado and is topped with spicy tuna and eel sauce.
One of the best and most popular sections on the menu is the bento box selection. Bento boxes originated in Japan and have since become popular in many Asian and Japanese restaurants in the United States. The bento boxes at Aja come with six different sections which include rice, seaweed salad, spicy tuna sushi roll, shumai, gyoza and then your selection from a list of entrees including items like sesame chicken, chicken or shrimp with Thai basil stir fry, and black pepper steak cubes to name a few. The bento boxes also come with a choice of soup. The portions are large and one can often feed two people if you order a few appetizers or sushi rolls to go along with the bento box.
Aja is open for lunch and dinner and also offers a happy hour from 4-7pm Monday-Friday.
