Ted Striker (Robert Hays) is still in love with stewardess Elaine Dickinson (Julie Hagerty). He decides to follow her onto her Trans American Airlines flight to try and get her back. She does not want anything to do with him at first. As soon as the plane lifts off and the food is handed out everyone is becoming sick. Pilots Roger Murdock (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and Captain Clarence Oveur (Peter Graves) are hit with food poison early in the flight. Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) is on the plane to help if he can. The auto pilot is used for some of the flight but it cannot land the plane. You see it is only a rubber man.
Steve McCroskey (Lloyd Bridges) is in the tower trying to help this ill fated plane not to crash. The devastation would be catastrophic. McCrosky tells Elaine to see if there is someone who can fly the plane. Their only hope is Ted Striker.
Striker hasn't flown a plane since he led a mission in the war that cost the lives of his squadron. He is haunted by the war and doesn't feel he can do the job. McCrosky gets Captain Kramer (Robert Stack) to come in and help talk striker and the plane down.
This movie is a laugh a minute. The gags are great and the cast is one of the funniest ever put together in a film. Directors Jim Abrahams, and David and Jerry Zucker have hit poor gold with this movie. 'Airplane!' is 33 years old and is still as hilarious as it was when it came out in 1980. So if are going to fly the friendly sky anytime soon then you must take the time and watch this movie before you do. Enjoy.
