Alfonso’s Family Trattoria in Somerville is the perfect place to kick back with family and friends and enjoy classic Italian fare, gourmet pizza, and a glass of wine at an affordable price. If you’re looking for a five star dining experience, Alfonso’s probably isn’t what you’re looking for. On the other hand, if you’re looking for an affordable restaurant with great Italian food, daily specials, and a family friendly, fun, casual atmosphere, Alfonso’s is the restaurant for you. Portions are huge, prices are low, and the quality of food is very good.
Located on Main Street in Somerville, Alfonso’s is open for both lunch and dinner daily. The menu is huge and offers a variety of Italian fare from pizza, to pastas, to subs and salads, to classic Italian dinner entrees, like beef braciole, eggplant parmigiana (my personal favorite), shrimp fra diavolo, and steak pizzaiola. There are also plenty of dishes that still use classic Italian flavors but are unique to Alfonso’s , like their signature chicken Alfonso which is made with prosciutto, mushroom, peas, and a creamy sherry wine sauce. The chicken Toscana is another winner and is served with white beans and topped with provolone cheese. The portions are very generous, so come hungry. Entrees also come with a house salad, bread and your choice of pasta.
Aside from the large menu offering just about any Italian classic entrée you can think of, another draw is the daily specials and the affordable prices. Pasta and entrées start at $8.95 for lunch and $12.95 for dinner. Gourmet pizzas of all kinds are available to order as personal portions (also available in medium and large sizes) and start at just $5.50 (personal sized cheese pizza). On Wednesday and Thursday evenings Alfonso’s has what they call “happy appy hour” where they feature half price appetizers, $2 bud/coors light drafts, $5 cosmopolitans, and half price pitchers of sangria to name a few. Happy appy hour lasts from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Click here to see a list of other daily specials and details.
