The Florida Space Coast actually consists of 72 miles of beaches, the longest stretch in the state.

Home to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the region obtained its name from the historic relationship with the nation’s space program. There are so many interactive learning opportunities at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, i.e. meet and eat lunch with an astronaut, witness rocket launches, ride the Atlantis Experience (designed by astronauts to give guests the feeling they are actually taking off in a shuttle), two IMAX theaters, the Angry Bird Space Encounter and more.

Orlando is more than just theme parks because the Space Coast is located just 35 miles east of Orlando and is Orlando’s closest beach.

The Florida Space Coast is considered the East Coast surfing capital of the United States. With steady waves and year-round warm weather, Cocoa Beach is home to Kelly Slater (the world’s greatest surfer) and the world-class Ron Jon Surf Shop. Want to learn how to surf? Families or groups or couples or individuals can get surfing lessons on the world-famous Cocoa Beach. Go fishing, rent a jet ski, ride the waves with a boogie board and soak up the sun at Cocoa Beach (voted one of ten BEST BEACH TOWNS in Florida in 2013 by USA TODAY and Dr. Beach).

Dine on delicious and fresh seafood right on the water at landmark eateries like Fishlips Waterfront Bar and Grill – a Port Canaveral Restaurant or Sunset Grill. Vast dining options that are affordable for various budgets, choices range from family friendly establishments featuring kid-friendly cuisine to restaurants offering surf n’ turf (i.e. Florida’s Fresh Grill); there is truly something for everyone’s taste buds.

See wild animals such as giraffes and lemurs up close in nature when taking a guided kayaking tour through Expedition Africa at the Brevard Zoo. Its a truly awe-inspiring excursion that families can enjoy together while observing animals within their outdoor environments. Thrilling fun for adults and children can be had when ziplining through and soaring amongst the trees at the Treetop Trek Aerial Adventures (located at the Brevard Zoo). With three levels from easy to more difficult and an obstacle course, participants get a bird’s-eye of the zoo in this exciting outdoor adventure. See all the animal exhibits, feed the giraffes, take a train ride around the zoo and let the kids have fun in Paws on Play, where they can splash in the lagoon, see an aquarium, touch the animals in the petting zoo and train in the Wildlife Detective Training Academy.

The Florida Space Coast has many museums that captive the interest and minds, regardless of age, like the U.S. Space Walk of Fame, Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum, Brevard Museum of History & Natural Science and the American Police Hall of Fame & Museum, which is the nation’s first national police museum and memorial dedicated to the American law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The American Police Hall of Fame has historical artifacts, many types of different police cars, a Kids Corner and kids theater which children can learn the importance of stranger danger. The police memorial is a beautiful and solemn reminder of the daily sacrifices of law enforcement officers.

Ample lodging choices are available that offer direct beach access (i.e., Courtyard by Marriott Cocoa Beach-Port Canaveral hotel) along with vacation-styled amenities, i.e. pools, whirlpools, evening firepits, music and more. Florida’s Space Coast has beachside tropical resort to bed and breakfasts, campgrounds, boutique hotels or convenient getaways perfect for families, reunions, weddings and meetings.
