A couple weeks ago, I traveled to the CNY Regional Market on a cold blustery November morning. As I wandered around the buildings solely with the intentions of buying peppers to make taco soup, I stumbled onto a small booth featuring gin and vodka. Uniquely named ADK Gin and ADK Vodka.
The booth was ran by two people providing information and tastings. The lovely woman, who's name I unfortunately didn't catch, offered me a sample of their vodka. Their hand crafted spirits are made from New York State corn and crystal filtered using Herkimer Diamonds in Utica, NY. The beautiful clear bottle of their hand-crafted spirits has an image of the lake and a dock with two Adirondack chairs, that exudes summertime relaxation. In my little plastic sample cup she provided me with a couple ice cubes and a generous tasting of ADK Vodka. Located to my right were some complimentary mixers should I so desire. Before I put in the cranberry juice I wanted to taste the vodka alone. ADK Vodka is very smooth, I did notice a subtle sweetness after I finished the sip that I can only imagine is from the very corn it is made from. Then I was introduced to ADK Gin.
I like vodka very much, but I appreciate the infusion of natural aromatic herbs and botanical that gin has to offer. So needless to say, I get very excited when it comes to gin. As I get older I have noticed my taste for spirits to be evolving. Long gone are the days of going to my favorite college hang out and ordering the cheapest pitcher of beer they have or some unknown well "vodka and cran" and let's not forget the days of one-dollar LITs!
ADK Gin is a new addition to the Adirondack Distillery. It's only been available to purchase since August of this year. While talking with the woman running the booth at the Regional Market about the history of their gin, you could see her beam with pride as she told us the story of how her husband has been working to create a dynamic batch of gin, and then be able to recreate that batch fr production. I can tell you first hand what a great job they did in making this gin. It is smooth, dry with the botanical offerings to that of a Bombay Sapphire. I'd like to refer to it as New York State's perfectly blended cross between Beefeater and Sapphire.
Smooth, crisp, refreshing and well-made. I liked it so much I bought a bottle of it right on the spot! I enjoy my gin on the rocks, with a splash of tonic, and cucumber spears.... yet with this gin I have omitted the splash of tonic all together.
I highly recommend ADK Vodka and Gin, please click on the link provided to visit their website for more information on where to purchase their lovely spirits. They also have a facebook and twitter page to know when and where they will be featured.
