ADDClasses.com - a great web-based resource for children and parents with ADD

Sometimes, the special needs “apple” doesn’t fall far from the tree. This has certainly proven to be true for children with ADD/ADHD. In fact, a parent’s first clue that he or she might have ADD or ADHD may be a child’s diagnosis. What’s a parent to do? Thankfully, ADDClasses.com is an inexpensive online resource for information and help for families with ADD/ADHD. Marriage, executive function, medication issues, anxiety, procrastination, parents with ADD/ADHD who have children with ADHD, and anger management are just a few examples of the topics for which ADDClasses.com offers convenient, helpful information.

Created by Tara McGillicuddy, ADDClasses.com offers both free teleseminars and fee-based webinars on various topics related to ADD/ADHD. The most recent teleseminar was “Overwhelmed: 8 Techniques to Break Through the Paralyses.” The most recent fee-based webinar was “ADD Bootcamp,” a 6-week course for adults which offered tools and techniques for developing and maintaining order in schedule planning, housekeeping, personal finances and paper management. While medical professionals are well represented among course presenters, what makes ADDClasses.com so helpful is that the presenters include people who themselves have ADD/ADHD, and are sharing the systems and techniques which have enabled them to overcome their personal, academic, and professional challenges. For parents of children with ADD/ADHD, listening to these adults describe their personal life experiences and their thought processes may give parents an invaluable window into their own children’s lives.

In addition to online classes, ADDClasses.com also offers online access to the ADD Audio Library. Aside from the free teleseminars, this is probably the best value of the fee-based resources. For only $11, subscribers get 1-month access to an audio library featuring MP3 files of over 100 of “subscription podcasts, teleseminars, and webinars” which are mostly one hour in length. The course presenters include such nationally recognized figures as Edward Hallowell, MD, and John Ratey, MD, the co-authors of the book, “Driven to Distraction.” They are organized in three main categories: (1) General ADD/ADHD Classes, (2) Classes for Adults with ADD/ADHD, (3) Classes for Partners and Spouses of Adults with ADD/ADHD, and Classes for Parents of Children with ADD/ADHD. All of these MP3 files can be downloaded immediately for later review. Subscribers who need more time can continue to pay $11 per month for access to these files, or buy a one-year subscription for $77.

Subscription to the ADD Audio Library also includes membership in an online support group, where subscribers can post questions and receive advice.
