Watching old movies on a projector can give one a very nostalgic feeling. That old grainy effect makes one long for reruns of Leave It To Beaver or a marathon of Happy Days. If you long for that feeling then forget this projector because coming in at about a pound the Acer Portable Projector has awesome color saturation that that makes that vintage look a thing of the past.
Although Acer is marketing it for the businessperson on the go, “Compact and user-friendly, the Acer K132 is a convenient, compact device to showcase visuals almost anywhere,” Acer America’s director of product management Frank Chang has said. It is also great for a family who wants to capture that authentic feel but doesn’t want a projector that’s so bulky that it takes over the living room.
While there are many things to consider when purchasing other gadgets, in the case of a projector what’s most important are things such as resolution and lamp life. If the picture quality isn’t any good and the bulb dies quickly it really doesn’t make for a good experience but rather a costly one for the consumer.
Acer promises a lamp life of 30,000 hours in ECO mode and 20,000 in standard mode, which should reduce cost of ownership. Unfortunately at the time of publishing this piece I wasn’t able to verify that length of time due to the obvious. But I will say that I was happy to know that there are no breakable filaments or tubes used in this projector, which is so very important for the environment. Who needs hazardous mercury or halogen gases?
The image and resolution were vibrant and did meet promised expectations. Their Black technology allowed for adjustments of scenes that were dark but also as a viewer it did not impact the brightness. When the K132 is used with Acer’s 3D or DLP 3D glasses one is able to enjoy a 3D effect. It also has a HDMI connection that allows connection to a large display or TV.
Available now and with a one-year warranty it’s affordably priced at $499.
