Watershed Hooded Sweatshirt by Duluth Trading Company

The hooded sweatshirt, as we know it, has been around since the 1930s, yet clothing manufacturers are constantly taking on the challenge of improving it. Some attempts are not dissimilar to reinventing the wheel while others tweak just the right amount of things to make what is already one of the greatest utilitarian inventions of all time a little better. Duluth Trading Company has done just that with their Watershed Hooded Sweatshirt.

With a price tag of $69.95, the Watershed is not the cheapest thing out there, but it is by no means the most expensive, and when the long list of features, some genuinely clever, is considered, its totally worth it. Since the Watershed is 100% polyester, it is considerably lighter than your average hoodie, and it is somewhat water repellent, being able to shed light rain without getting damp inside. This same finish is also excellent at keeping stains at bay (I should know, I am a stain magnet). Wash after wash, the Watershed comes out with a tidy, almost crisp finish that is a pleasant surprise for something so casual.

The anatomically shaped, three panel hood is a thing of beauty. It provides just the right amount of coverage without getting in the way of things, and if it needs to tightened up, it can be done via the spring-loaded toggle and elastic cord that is tucked away out of sight. Other companies looking to improve the hoodie should look to Duluth Trading Company for advice.

The side panel inserts and raglan sleeves provide ample freedom of movement, and the hand warmer pockets have a hidden pocket in the right side that is purported to be for change, but I have found that it is the perfect size for my utterly amazing HTC One, so I now call it the HTC One pocket. Lastly, one of my favorite features are the thumbholes in the cuff of each sleeve. This feature has helped keep my hands warm on numerous chilly morning walks. Thanks DTC!

Getting to test and review clothing is one of my favorite things in the world to do. Exploring a particular garment and discovering its many attributes is always a challenge, and as of late, with clothing getting more and more clever, it has become quite fun as well.
